Summertime means “outdoor time” if you ask me! I spend as much time as possible outside- gardening, swimming, hiking, or biking. It’s all fun and games though, until someone gets a bad sunburn! I try to remember to slather on the sunscreen before heading outside, but sometimes I forget or just get caught off off guard. It really stinks to reminded of this mistake when my skin is painful or peeling from getting too much sun. I made this DIY Natural After Sun Cooling Cream to help cool things down after getting cooked. I wanted the cooling effect for my skin, minus the artificial green and blue colored gels that contain who-knows-what chemicals!!!

Green and Blue colored gels scare me…. unless naturally colored of course. In order to get a WONDERFUL cooling effect on my skin after a sun-filled day, I made this DIY Natural After Sun Cooling Cream. It is all natural, safe, and effective. It leaves your skin cooled, moisturized, and glowing after use. I use a blend of Young Living Essential Oils to nourish sun quenched skin. I ONLY use these because they are steam distilled and cold pressed without the use of harmful chemicals in production. Aloe Vera Gel– Aloe Vera gel is filled with antioxidants which help to heal, moisturize, and soothe irritated skin.
Jojoba oil– Jojoba oil resembles sebum, an oil produced by the human body. This oil acts to hydrate, moisturize, and soothe skin- keeping it glowing and subtle.
Shea Butter– Unrefined, organic Shea butter has fatty acids which help to neutralize free radicals in the skin. This helps skin stay healthy and smooth.
Coconut Oil- Coconut oil is a natural antibacterial, anti-fungal, moisturizing oil that does wonders for skin health!
Young Living Essential Oils:
Peppermint– The menthol in the peppermint oil makes your brain think that the area is cold. Therefore, your skin gets a cooling effect.
Lavender– The properties in the lavender oil help to calm, soothe, and relax irritated skin.
Frankincense– Frankincense promotes skin regeneration and helps soothe skin, reversing the irritated state.
Here’s what you need to make 4oz :
- 1/4 cup aloe vera gel
- 5 drops pure jojoba oil
- 1 tablespoon organic, unrefined Shea butter (warmed so that it is very soft)
- 1 tablespoon organic coconut oil (warmed so that it is very soft)
- 10 drops peppermint Young Living Essential Oil
- 5 drops lavender Young Living Essential Oil
- 5 drops frankincense Young Living Essential Oil
Here’s what you do:
- Mix all ingredients together in a bowl. Be sure the cocoa butter and the coconut oils are warmed so that they become very soft- like creamy butter consistency.
- Once incorporated, fill a 4oz glass jar with the mixture.
- Keep it in the refrigerator so that when you apply it to your skin, it feels cool as can be!
***Please note that [obviously} getting a sunburn can be serious. If you have cracked, bleeding, or blistered skin from a sunburn, please ask your doctor first before applying. I am not a doctor and am not suggesting a cure as one!
